Laois County Libraries now have access to 5 new E Resources and Ebooks services. Borrowers will need to have their library card (number) to access them and in some cases will need to create an account.

ProQuest NewsStand is a digital, online database of news articles produced by the ProQuest company. The database contains indexed and fully searchable electronic copies of articles from over 1,500 state, regional, national and international newspapers. The database is updated multiple times a day and is marketed primarily towards libraries and academic institutions.

Access is via library card number only.

Bolinda is the new Ebooks site for all public libraries. This service gives free access to the Ebooks and Audiobooks, access is via library card number and surname. Users can also download the app.

JSTOR’s Archival Journal Collections

JSTOR (pronounced JAY-stor; short for Journal Storage) is a digital library founded in 1995. Originally containing digitized back issues of academic journals, it now also includes books and primary sources, and current issues of journals. It provides full text searches of almost 2,000 journals.

Newspapers

The most widely used resource in the Local Studies Department is the newspaper collection.

This comprises of: The Leinster Express 1831 – 2001 on microfilm and hardcopies from 2002 to the present;

The Nationalist 1883 – 2004 on microfilm and hardcopies from 2005 to the present;

Some copies of the Leinster Independent on microfilm.

The Leinster Express from 1831-1949 is now available online in all public libraries in Laois. The paper has been digitised and is searchable via

Bad Debt Judgment Reports

Shows if any company or consumer has been taken to court for failure to repay a debt.

A breakdown of the ownership details of a company including names of shareholders, % shareholding, shares issued etc.
