Comhairle Chontae Laoise – Laois County Council – Stepping Out in Portlaoise
Portlaoise Stepping Out Walking and Social Club
Twelve members travelled to Dungarvan in Waterford for a great weekend of walking from 16th to 18th August. The walk on Saturday was of about 3 hours duration with guide providing us with some great views over the Knockmealdown Mountains, we then visited Mount Mellery Abbey where we had a well deserved cuppa afterwards.
Sunday walk of 13 km was a nice scenic walk with part of the walk on a old converted walking railway track and some road bringing us to Clonea Strand where we spent a few very enjoyable hours in glorious sunshine before departing for home on Sunday evening.
Stepping Out in Portlaoise is designed to cater for people who want to begin walking again and get out and about. Walkers will walk at their own comfortable pace. The programme is not designed for power or fast walkers so you wont have to try and keep up with anyone faster than you! We want people to feel comfortable as they walk and also to meet new people and have a social interaction with them afterwards in the café where free refreshments are provided after every walk.
We meet at Portlaoise Leisure Centre @7.45pm Tuesdays and Thursdays and some Sunday mornings.
All walking sessions are 45/60 minutes duration with refreshments afterwards (only if you wish)
